Combating Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is a pervasive issue in Africa, affecting millions and hindering the continent's development. Globally, nearly 50 million people are impacted by human trafficking annually, with Africa being a significant contributor to these numbers. Alarmingly, in West Africa, over 75% of detected trafficking victims are children, often subjected to forced labor, sexual exploitation, and forced marriage.
Impact on Africa:
-
Forced Labor: Many victims, including children, are coerced into labor-intensive industries such as agriculture, mining, and domestic work, depriving them of education and exposing them to hazardous conditions.
-
Sexual Exploitation: A significant number of trafficked individuals, particularly women and girls, are forced into prostitution or exploitative marriages, leading to severe physical and psychological trauma.
-
Child Soldiers: In conflict zones, children are forcibly recruited into armed groups, stripping them of their childhood and exposing them to violence.
